Halloween is over by Sunday, but fall in Indiana is nowhere near done. People are still heading to apple orchards, tailgating before the Purdue and IU games, and pulling sweatshirts out of the closet the second the morning air turns cold. That's a long selling window, and it's why a lot of the shops we print for keep a fall line on the rack well after the pumpkins come off the porch.
We print fall DTF transfers for boutiques, market vendors, and online brands all over the state, so we've got a pretty good feel for what moves. This guide walks through the designs that sell, the garments they go on, the sizes to print, and what it all costs when you order smart.
Why Does a Fall Collection Sell So Long in Indiana?
Because Hoosier fall stretches from the first cool nights in September all the way to Thanksgiving dinner. A Halloween shirt has about six weeks of life. A good fall shirt, one with leaves, flannel colors, or a cozy coffee joke, can sell for three months straight and then pop back up next year.
That's the big difference we tell new brands about. Holiday designs are a sprint. Fall clothing designs are more like a long walk, and if you plan for it, the same few designs can carry you from back to school season right up to the Black Friday weekend.
What Shoppers Want When the Weather Turns
Comfort comes first. Once Indiana mornings drop into the 40s, people want soft sweatshirts and hoodies more than thin tees. Color matters next, since warm tones like rust, mustard, olive, and cream feel like fall even before anyone reads the design. And local pride runs strong, so anything with Indiana, a county name, or a small town nod tends to do well.
The Best Fall DTF Transfer Designs Right Now
Here are the fall DTF transfer designs we see reordered most, and where each one fits.
| Design style | Why it sells | Best garment |
|---|---|---|
| Falling leaves and simple line art | Easy to wear for weeks | Crewneck sweatshirts |
| Cozy coffee and flannel jokes | Quick laugh, impulse buy | Hoodies and tees |
| Apple orchard and harvest scenes | Feels local and seasonal | Tees and totes |
| Retro "Hello Fall" type | Looks good on any color | Sweatshirts |
| Indiana map with autumn colors | Hometown pride | Hoodies |
| Football Saturday and tailgate art | Game day crowds | Tees and long sleeves |
| Thanksgiving "thankful" designs | Family gatherings | Tees and kids' shirts |
Pumpkins still work too, as long as they're cozy and not spooky. A pumpkin with a scarf sells right through November, while a jack o lantern with fangs is done on the first.
Fall Sweatshirt Designs That Keep Selling
Sweatshirts are where the money is once it gets cold. Simple fall sweatshirt designs with one color of type and a small leaf or pumpkin tend to look more expensive than busy art, and boutiques can price them higher. A curved "Indiana Autumn" across the chest with a tiny maple leaf is the kind of thing we print over and over.
Fall Hoodie Designs for Game Days and Cold Nights
Hoodies need a bit more planning, since the pocket and the strings take up space. Good fall hoodie designs sit higher on the chest, around three inches below the collar, and stay narrower than a tee print so they don't run into the pocket seam. Back prints are great for hoodies too, because nothing gets in the way.
Autumn Graphic Tees Still Have a Place
Even in Indiana, plenty of fall days hit the 60s, especially in early October and the warm spells we get after Halloween. Autumn graphic tees sell best in muted colors and long sleeve versions, and they're great for layering under a flannel or a cardigan.
Tees also work for groups. Church fall festivals, school harvest parties, and family Thanksgiving photos all need shirts, and a soft orange tee with a simple design is easy for everyone to wear.
Autumn Clothing Ideas Beyond Shirts
Don't stop at tops. A few autumn clothing ideas that add easy sales:
- Tote bags with a leaf or pumpkin print for orchard and market trips.
- Kids' sweatshirts that match a parent's design.
- Pet bandanas with a tiny "Fall Vibes" print.
- Beanies with a small woven style patch printed in DTF.
- Long sleeve tees for the in between days.
What Fall Apparel Trends Are Selling This Season?
Here's what we're seeing on the sheets coming through our shop. These fall apparel trends line up with what boutique owners tell us at pickup, too.
| Trend | What it looks like | Who buys it |
|---|---|---|
| Earth tone palettes | Rust, olive, mustard, cream | Women 25 to 45 |
| Vintage college style type | Arched letters, worn texture | Teens and college students |
| Minimal line art | Single color leaves and mugs | Boutique shoppers |
| Hometown pride | Town names and county maps | Locals and gift buyers |
| Matching family sets | Same art in adult and kid sizes | Parents and grandparents |
The common thread across fall apparel designs this year is softer, calmer art. Big neon prints have mostly given way to designs that look like they came from a small shop, which is good news if you are a small shop.
How Big Should Fall Clothing Transfers Be?
Getting the size right makes a cheap sweatshirt look custom. Here's a quick guide for fall clothing transfers.
| Garment | Front print width |
|---|---|
| Adult crewneck sweatshirt | 10 to 12 inches |
| Adult hoodie front | 9 to 11 inches |
| Youth sweatshirt or tee | 8 to 10 inches |
| Toddler tee | 5 to 7 inches |
| Left chest or small logo | 3.5 to 4 inches |
| Sleeve or hood print | 2 to 3 inches |
Need every size spelled out? Our DTF size chart for Indiana makers covers the rest.
What Do Fall Shirt Transfers Cost?
Here's how pricing works on our current list. If you're testing one design, a single transfer is fine. Once you're stocking a rack, a gang sheet saves a lot.
| How you order | What you get | Cost per print |
|---|---|---|
| Single 11 x 11 inch transfer | 1 large sweatshirt front | $8.90 |
| Single 10 x 10 inch transfer | 1 adult front | $8.40 |
| Gang sheet of 10 x 10 prints | 4 adult fronts, plus small extras | About $3.55 |
| Gang sheet of 9 x 9 prints | 6 youth or hoodie fronts | About $2.37 |
| Gang sheet of 4 x 4 prints | About 30 chest prints | Under $0.50 |
So say a boutique wants 40 adult fronts across four fall designs. As single 10 x 10 transfers, that's $336. On gang sheets with four prints each, it's 10 sheets for $142. That difference pays for a good chunk of your blank sweatshirts.

How to Press Fall Shirt Transfers on Sweatshirts and Hoodies
Fleece is thicker than a tee, so take a little extra care. Here's the routine we tell every customer:
- Prepress the sweatshirt for 3 to 5 seconds to flatten the fleece and pull out moisture.
- Press at 320 to 330°F for 8 to 15 seconds with firm pressure.
- Peel the film while it's hot. Our transfers are hot peel.
- On hoodies, slide a pressing pillow inside so the pocket seam doesn't leave a line.
- Wait 24 hours before the first wash, then wash inside out.
Full steps are on our FAQ page. Trying a new sweatshirt brand? Run a DTF sample pack on one first. Don't have a press, or need 50 hoodies by Saturday? We'll make finished pieces for you through our custom apparel service.
Picking Shirt Colors for Fall
Fall colors are easy to love and a little tricky to print on. Our prints have a white base layer, so bright art shows up well on dark olive, brown, and black. Light designs in pale cream can wash out on a heather oatmeal sweatshirt, though. Our guide to DTF transfers for dark and light garments explains what to check before you print a full run.
Turning Leftover Halloween Stock Into Fall Sales
If you still have spooky stock, don't panic. Black cats, pumpkins with no faces, and "cozy season" designs can move straight into a fall display. Anything that names Halloween or carries a year should go in a bundle deal this week. Our post on the best Halloween DTF transfer designs shows which styles cross over best, and our ready made Halloween DTF transfers include plenty of pumpkins and cats that work into November.
Selling autumn shirt transfers to other makers, or finished pieces at markets? The Indiana Department of Revenue says sellers of taxable goods need a Registered Retail Merchant Certificate, and the fee is $25 per location. We're printers, not tax experts, so check the details with the state. For more ideas on what small shops stock, read our guide to Halloween shirt ideas for small clothing businesses, since many of the same tips carry right into fall.
